Weekly Honor Roll

Westfield State's Casey Mignone was named the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) player of the week.

MIgnone scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Westfield's 9-5 victory at Framingham. The senior forward from Ramsey, N.J., also had two assists vs. Plymouth State.

The Owls return to action this Thursday when they play a key MASCAC game at UMass Dartmouth. The MASCAC is tightly-contested at the top, with Fitchburg leading the way with 20 points, followed by Salem (19), Westfield (18) and Plymouth (17).

FRAMINGHAM - The Westfield State ice hockey team exploded for five goals in the third period to defeat the Framingham State Rams 9-5 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) ice hockey action today at Framingham's Loring Arena.

Sophomore forward A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, OH) and freshman forward Danny Kaufman (Scotch Plains, NJ) each tallied two goals and an assist in the game for three points apiece for the Owls (11-7-2). Senior Casey Mignone (Ramsey, NJ) scored two goals while Scott Soborowski (Novi, MI) and Jason Nelson (Raleigh, NC) chipped in two assists each.

SALEM - On a day when the Salem State basketball program recognized its heroes of yesteryear, the star of the current team stole the show, as the Lady Vikings ran to a 66-54 victory over Westfield State Saturday, Feb. 6, at Twohig Gymnasium.

Senior forward Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA), who ranks fifth all-time in career points at SSC, scored a game-high 21 points - despite being triple-teamed throughout the second half - as the Lady Vikings improved to 15-6 overall, 6-2 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference play. Westfield State fell to 7-14, 1-8.
