WESTFIELD, Mass. - Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) scored six goals and Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) tallied four goals as Castleton State held on for an 18-17 victory over Westfield State in a semifinal game of the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) tournament on Wednesday, May 5.

Highlighting the extensive parity in the league, three teams finished tied atop the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance standings at 6-1 following regular season play. Using predetermined tiebreakers, Bridgewater State will be the top seed in the upcoming NEWLA Championship. The Bears (6-1 NEWLA, 13-4 overall) will host fourth seed Fitchburg State (4-3 NEWLA, 10-6 overall) in a semifinal game on Wednesday, May 5.
Westfield State (6-1 NEWLA, 11-3 overall) and Castleton (6-1 NEWLA, 12-5 overall), who both finished tied atop the league standings, will played Wednesday, May 5, at Westfield State in the other semifinal. Please note the game has a new starting time of 3:00 p.m. Westfield edged Castleton in overtime during the regular season.

BRIDGEWATER - Senior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA) tallied three goals and five assists to lead the Bridgewater State College Bears to a key 19-11 New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) victory over Westfield State College on Tuesday afternoon in Bridgewater.
With the win, the Bears pull into a first place tie in the NEWLA standings along with Westfield and Castleton State College. Bridgewater is now 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in the Alliance, while Westfield falls to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Westfield State junior Laura Chiricosta (Lexington) and junior Ari Colella (Franklin) have been selected the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) player and rookie of the week.
Chiricosta compiled 7 goals, 7 assists and 2 ground balls in the Owls' 2-0 week. She recorded 4
goals and 2 assists a 17-14 victory over Worcester State. She scored all 4 of her goals in
key 7-1 Westfield scoring spurt late in the first half. Chiricosta tallied 3 goals and 5 assists in
a 21-8 victory over Framingham State.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Westfield State women's lacrosse and softball games at Rhode Island College on Thursday afternoon, April 22, were cancelled because of lightning and rain.
Both teams were scheduled to begin play at 4:00 p.m. but waited through an hour and 15-minute lightning and rain delay. The Westfield State women's lacrosse team was winning, 13-2, with 3:04 remaining in the first half when lightning forced the game to be cancelled.
RIC and Westfield were tied 1-1 in the top of the second inning of the first game of their scheduled doubleheader when play was suspended.
