Westfield Hosts MCLA On Tuesday

All of Westfield State's men's and women's home basketball games, and selected away games, can be seen live on the internet via video stream. The link to view the games is www.mascac.tv. Westfield State students Matt LaPan and Bryan Stockhaus are providing the play-by-play and color commentary for the home games.

In addition, in-game statistics for all home games can be viewed on Live Stats.

The Owls continue conference action on Tuesday, Feb. 9, when they host MCLA.

SALEM - On a day when the Salem State basketball program recognized its heroes of yesteryear, the star of the current team stole the show, as the Lady Vikings ran to a 66-54 victory over Westfield State Saturday, Feb. 6, at Twohig Gymnasium.

Senior forward Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, MA), who ranks fifth all-time in career points at SSC, scored a game-high 21 points - despite being triple-teamed throughout the second half - as the Lady Vikings improved to 15-6 overall, 6-2 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference play. Westfield State fell to 7-14, 1-8.

The Rams have now won two straight MASCAC games for the first time since 2003 and snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Owls that also dates back to the 2003 season. Framingham State improves to 2-4 in conference and 7-8 overall on the year; the Owls drop to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the MASCAC.

WESTFIELD – Junior forward Ashley Finnegan (Worcester) had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead the Westfield State to a 73-68 victory over visiting Salem State in MASCAC women’s basketball Saturday, Jan. 16.

With the big victory Westfield snapped a four-game losing skid. Westfield improves to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference while Salem drops to 8-5 and 1-1 in the conference

Finnegan led the hot shooting Owls by draining 7 of 8 field goal attempts in the first half; she ended the game 11-for-16. Westfield shot a blistering 54 percent from the field, but head coach Andrea Bertini said the No. 1 key to the victory was her team’s effort on the defensive end against a Salem front-court that featured 6-3 freshmen twins Brianna and Whitney Wilson (Lowell) and 5-11 senior center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough).
