NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has been projected to win the Little East field hockey regular-season championship outright, according the 2010 preseason coaches’ poll.

Back by popular demand, the student-athletes on the teams of football, men’s soccer, field hockey, women’s soccer and volleyball will be housed in Courtney Hall during preseason. Student-athletes will report to Courtney Hall upon arriving to campus.

Westfield State's Catherine Moriarty controls the ball during the 15th annual Springfield College field hockey spring tournament on Saturday, April 15. Twelve Division II and III colleges participated in the one-day tournament, with all games featuring seven players to a side. The Owls posted a 2-2-1 record in the pool play competition. Westfield defeated the University of New England, 3-1, and Smith College, 3-1, and tied Endicott College, 0-0. The Owls lost to Morrisville (N.Y.) State, 2-0, and Franklin Pierce, 2-1. Nine Westfield State student-athletes were named to the Little East Conference All-Academic field hockey team.
Westfield placed the most student-athletes on the All-Academic team in the 12-team field hockey conference. To earn a spot on the all-academic team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3, and be a full-time member of a varsity team.

All-Conference Team
Westfield State sophomore defender Nicole Gagnon (Andover) was selected to the Little East field hockey all-conference second team.
Gagnon is the only Owl on the all-conference first and second teams in the 12-team conference. In addition to her defensive prowess, she was 2-for-2 in penalty strokes this year, including the game-winning goal in a 1-0 upset victory over Keene State.
