FRAMINGHAM - The Westfield State College ice hockey team scored four goals in the first nine minutes en route to a 5-3 Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) win over Framingham State at Loring Arena tonight.
With the win the Owls improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference, while the Rams fall to 0-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the MASCAC.

Game time is 4:00 pm and the $10 admission is good for both the Falcons Cup game and the Falcons contest against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers starting at 7:30 p.m.

Miele, the Owls’ assistant coach for the past two years, replaces Jerry Keefe, who last month accepted a position as the top assistant hockey coach at Brown University.

ECAC Northeast All-Academic Team
Five Westfield State College ice hockey players have been named to the ECAC Northeast All-Academic team for the 2008-2009 season.
The players are: sophomore Dennis Zak (Dover, N.J.), sophomore Ted Battaglia (Hopatcong, N.J.), junior Casey Mignone (Ramsey, N.J.), junior Mike Muolo (Stoneham, Mass.), and junior Mike Young (Orillia, Ontario).

Westfield State College's Denniz Zak was named to the New England Hockey Writers 2008-2009 New England ECAC Northeast All-Star team.
Zak was one of 12 players in the ECAC Northeast Conference selected to the all-star squad. The 5-7 sophomore forward from Dover, N.J., led the Owls and the conference in scoring with 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists). He also ranked fourth nationally in NCAA Division III in points per game (1.96).

WESTFIELD - His presence on and off the ice will be missed. Westfield State College senior ice hockey captain Jeff Chillson (Enfield, Conn.) just finished up a stellar season with the Owls in their first season
as a varsity program in 20 years.
Moving up from club status, the Owls went 11-9-4 (7-7-3 MASCAC) in 2008-09, earning an ECAC Tournament playoff berth before falling short to nationally-ranked and conference champion Nichols in the quarterfinals.
