Springfield, Mass. – The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they will host the Second Annual Falcons Cup on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 when the Western New England College Golden Bears take on the Westfield State College Owls at the MassMutual Center. Game time is 4:00 pm and the $10 admission is good for both the Falcons Cup game and the Falcons contest against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers starting at 7:30 p.m.

In last year’s inaugural Falcon Cup, Westfield State pulled away from Western New England for a 5-2 victory. This year’s game is the season opener for the Owls and the head-coaching debut for Bob Miele. Western New England opens its 2009-2010 season on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when it hosts Stonehill College at 7:15 p.m. at Smead Arena. Western New England is also showcasing a new head coach this season, Greg Heffernan of Fredonia, N.Y.

“We are very excited to be playing for the Falcons Cup once again,” said Miele. “This is an excellent opportunity for both teams to showcase their skills to Western Mass. hockey fans and to play in an outstanding facility.”

“We are thrilled to be able to play Westfield State at the MassMutual Center for the Falcon Cup,” said Heffernan. “It is a great way for both of our schools to start out the season and promote NCAA hockey in our region. I know that our players are excited to represent Western New England College and I am expecting that the fans will see a great college hockey game.”

Tickets for the game are available on both the Western New England College and Westfield State College campuses and also through Carole Appleton by calling 413-348-6372.

The Springfield Falcons return to action this weekend when they head to Albany, NY to take on the River Rats on Friday, October 30, followed by an afternoon home game vs. Lowell on Saturday, October 31. Special game time for the Halloween contes is 3:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office by calling 413-787-6600 or also through Ticketmaster.com.
