WESTFIELD, Mass. – Senior Lindsay Jardin (Assonet) was 3-for-3 with two RBI and junior Danielle Lutenegger (Sunderland) smacked a three-run double to lead Westfield State to a 10-0, five-inning victory over Nichols College in non-conference softball action on Wednesday, April 22.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled because of rain and muddy field conditions. Westfield, 21-12, is idle until Thursday, April 30, when it hosts an opening round game in the Mass. State Conference postseason tournament. Nichols drops to 13-22.

Westfield scored seven runs in the first inning on six hits and two Bison errors. Jardin had two hits in the inning, including a two-run single. Lutenegger delivered the big blow with her two-out three-run double.

The Owls out-hit the Bison, 10-3. Sophomore second baseman Kristyn Carroll (Brockton) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Junior catcher Gia Calabrese (West Springfield) was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Also pounding doubles were senior center fielder Jackie Mason (Florida, Mass.) and sophomore designated player Alicia Gardner (Athol).

Designated hitter Lindsay Hassett (Oxford) was 2-for-2 for the Bison.

Winning pitcher Cheslea Sylvia (South Dartmouth) struck out 10 and walked one in the five-inning game.
