MASCAC Meet Results
WESTFIELD - The Westfield State men's outdoor track and field team turned in a another dominating performance in capturing the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference (MASCAC) championship on Saturday, April 25, at the newly dedicated Jerry Gravel Track.
It was the 13th straight MASCAC crown for the Owls and the 26th in the past 27 years.
Westfield won 12 events and had four double winners. Marc Gomes sprinted to victories in the 100 meter dash (10.97) and the 200 meter dash (21.77). The junior flash qualified provisionally for the NCAA national championships in the 200.
Gomes also was anchored the Owls' winning 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams which cranked out excellent times of 42.19 and 3:20.49 that were just shy of the MASCAC records.
Michael Chapin, a double winner who defended its MASCAC crowns in the 110 high and 400 intermediate hurdles, also was a member of both relay squads. Completing the 4 x 100 quartet were Jim Flynn and Todd Kittelson, while Dan Stahelski and Roland Paquette were members of the 4 x 400 squad.
Junior Brandon Palmer also had an outstanding MASCAC meet. Palmer won the long jump (21-9 1/2) and high jump (6-3 1/4) and placed second in the triple jump (42-10 3/4).
Senior Nathan Landry continued his dominance in the throwing events by placing first in the hammer throw (171-6) and shot put (47-9 1/4) and third in the discus.
Also placing first was senior Phil Gingras in the 10,000 meter run and freshman Patrick Regan in the 1500 meter run.
Finishing second were Tyler Merchant (javelin), Stahelski (400 meter dash), Jovaney Toledo (discus) and John Lannon (pole vault).
