DANBURY, Conn. - Four Western Connecticut State University women's basketball players scored in double figures and the Colonials played pesky defense in their 81-42 victory over Westfield State College at Feldman Arena on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Another solid performance from junior Melissa Teel (Hamden, CT) lifted WestConn to its 10th straight victory. The 6'2" center finished with 17 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots and has now recorded a double-double in all but one game this season.

Karli Spera (Waterford, CT) added 16 points while Katie Moffo (Southington, CT) and Heather Lee (Seymour, CT) contributed 12 points apiece. Newcomer Michelle Djonovic (Dover Plains, NY) chipped in eight points in her first extended action since transferring to WestConn from Manhattan College.

Cassy Jouannet (Conway, MA) and Molly Brogan (Mendon, MA) each had eight points to lead the Owls, now 6-8.

The Colonials held Westfield State scoreless for the first 3:36 while building a 5-0 lead on a follow-up layup by Teel.

The contest stayed virtually close, with the Owls keeping their deficit to single digits, nine points at 24-15, until WestConn closed out the first half on a 13-5 run leaving no doubt of the final outcome.

The Colonials' largest lead was 44 points, 81-37 following a three pointer by freshman Nicole Eanniello (Danbury, CT). That buckets put every WestConn player in the scoring column.
