WESTFIELD – The Westfield State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Western Connecticut State University, 129-109, in its final home meet on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The Owls improved their record to 5-3; they conclude their dual meet regular season Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Regis College. Western Connecticut is 5-5.
Placing first for the Owls were Libby Stewart of West Springfield (1,000 freestyle), Kate Werner (200 freestyle), Kim Schmidt of Longmeadow (one-meter diving), Jenna Tasse (100 freestyle), and Lindsey Malboeuf (100 backstroke).
Western Connecticut junior Megan Dyson (Farmington, Conn.) was the meet’s only double winner. Dyson finished first in the 50 and 100 breaststrokes. She placed second in the 200 freestyle and was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay along with Kari Piedescalzo, Francesca Testa, and Stephanie Mills.
Testa (Cheshire, Conn.) and Mills (Danbury, Conn.) placed first in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, respectively.
