WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State sophomore Allie Giguere (Lynn, Mass./ Bishop Fenwick) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 47 seconds left in the first overtime to lead the Owls to a 2-1 OT win over The Sage Colleges(NY) in a non-conference field hockey game at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening.

Giguere took a long lead pass from Marina Small (South Harwich, Mass.), and rifled a shot inside the far post from the right side for the game winner.

Westfield had peppered Gators' goalie Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) with shots all night, firing 28 total shots and 19 on goal.

Giguere had put the Owls on the board first with a goal in the 32nd minute of the game, getting a feed from Shannon Roycroft (Centerville, Mass./Proctor) on a counter-attack and beating Greier.

Sage forced the OT with a goal just 2:35 into the fourth quarter.   Cortney Conley (Staffordville, NY/Pine Plains) tallied off the rebound of her own shot on a corner play to tie the game.

Sage withstood four Westfield State corners in the fourth quarter, and two more in overtime as Greier came out of net frequently to challenge crosses and kicked away 14 shots.

Westfield State got a good performance in goal from Katie Vamosi (South Easton, Mass.), who saved nine shots, including one at point blank range in overtime that she smothered just in front of the goal line.

With the win, Westfield improves to 5-14 on the season and snaps an eight-game skid.  Sage is now 7-11 on the season.

Westfield will play its final game of the 2019 slate with a Little East Conference game at Plymouth State on Saturday with a noon start.  The game will be played at the Holderness School's turf field.  The Owls have been mathematically eliminated from the Little East Conference tournament.

Sage will face Elmira College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Albany.
