WESTFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Zachary White (Milford, Conn.) scored two goals to lead Curry College to a 5-1 victory over Westfield State University in the opening game of the Martha's Vineyard tournament Friday afternoon.
Curry improves to 10-5-1 on the season while the Owls are now 3-8-1 overall.
Sophomore Marcus Payne (Fogo Island, Newfoundland) put the Owls ahead with a goal at 6:10 of the first period to lead 1-0.
The Colonels would find the back of the net twice more in the first period, with goals from Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ontario) at 8:57 and White at 19:37.
Curry upped the lead to 3-1 with another goal from White in the third minute of the second period.
The Colonels went on to score two more times, with goals from Ryan Fitzgerald (Cary, N.C.) and Alec Mono (Las Vegas, Nev.) to claim the 5-1 victory over Westfield State.
The Owls will face Salve Regina at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, while Curry College faces Neumann University at 4:00 p.m.
