Mike Young begins his seventh season as a member the Westfield State ice hockey team coaching staff in 2018-19
Young continues his coaching career after serving as a team captain for the Owls since the program's rejuvenation in 2008.
While playing for the Owls, Young provided valued leadership, a blue collared approach, and an always positive attitude; he will now do the same from behind the bench. Young's affinity for continually learning about the game and his ability to both motivate and teach will be just a few of the attributes he brings to the coaching staff.
Prior to arriving at Westfield, Young spent a season at UMass Boston and played his Jr. Hockey serving as captain for the Wheatfield Blades in the GOJHL and the Paris Mounties of the NJHL. He won a championship with the Waterloo Wolves Midget AAA organization and spent the majority of his minor hockey as captain for the Woolwich Wildcats.
Young earned his B.A. and master's degrees in English from Westfield State. He is employed full-time by the Westfield athletics department, with additional duties as strength and conditioning coach and assistant facilities manager.
