WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior William Canty (Grafton, Mass.) set the Owls' school record in the heptathlon, as he finished second at the Harvard University multi-event meet on Friday and Saturday.
Canty scored 4,582 points, improving upon his own mark of a year ago.
Canty was the only Division III competitor at the meet, which included five athletes from Division I schools and one from Division II. Canty placed second behind UMass' Hunter Gray, who scored 4,827 points.
Canty placed second in the shot put, the 60 hurdles, the pole vault and the 1000 meter run.
A personal best throw in the shot put (41'-2.5) and a collegiate best leap of 5-10 in the high jump helped add to Canty's record total.
