Westfield State women's golf wrapped up the 2018-19 season with a fourth place finish at the inaugural Northeast Women's Golf Conference championship hosted by Westfield State University at Tekoa Country Club on Sunday.
The Owls posted a team score of 388. Suffolk University won the title with a team 355, followed by Husson (Me.) College with 368 and Johnson and Wales (RI) with 381. Keuka (NY) College, Nazareth (NY) College and Utica (NY) College rounded out the field.
Suffolk's Nicole Antonucci was the conference champion with a score of 81.
The Owls joined the recently formed NEGC, which absorbed schools from the Empire 8 Conference. Approved by the NCAA Membership committee, after a two-year waiting period, the league championship team will have the opportunity to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III women's golf national championship tournament.
Making up the conference will be Husson University, Johnson & Wales University, Keuka College, Nazareth College, Suffolk University, SUNY Canton, SUNY Cortland, St. John Fisher College, Utica College and Westfield State.
Starting with the 2019-20 academic year, the conference championship will be a two-day even held in fall, while today's meet consisted of a single 18 hole round.
Today's tournament wraps up the 2018-19 season for the Owls, and the four-year careers of Murphy and Loughlin, who have consistently vied for the #1 player role throughout their careers.
