D3baseball.com Votes Owls as Preseason MASCAC Favorite

After a 2020 season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Owls baseball team was selected as the 2021 MASCAC preseason favorites by D3baseball.com. The Owls have many impact players on the roster that are primed to defend their championship title from the 2019 season. The team returns plenty of leadership in the form of graduate students Brett Dooley and Casey Boudreau. Dooley put together a solid 2019 campaign, hitting .259 with 21 RBI and 24 runs scored. Boudreau hit a sizzling .345 with 21 RBI and 26 runs scored as well.

The Owls are also comprised of a deep senior class of ten players that will contribute in a variety of different ways. Outfielder Nick Martin leads the talented group hitting .331 with 20 RBI, 33 runs scored, 17 SB in the 2019 season. Owls' first baseman Sean Moorhouse (.389, 2 HRs, 4 RBI, 7 R), catcher Bryant Dana (.300 3 H, 5 RBI), and outfielder Steve Saucier (.474, 9 H, 2 2B, 4 R) will look to build upon excellent starts to their 2020 shortened seasons to extend the depth in what has the makings of a dangerous offensive lineup.

On the pitching side, the Owls are led by senior Shane Bogli, who put together a productive 2019 season posting an 8-3 record while recording a 2.83 ERA with 45 strikeouts. Senior Patrick Jordan will also be relied upon as the Owls number two starter after totaling a 2-3 record with a 4.97 ERA in the 2019 season.

The Owls, led by head coach Nathan Bashaw, compiled a 28-16 record in the 2019 season and eventually defeated Fitchburg State in the MASCAC Championship to claim their fifth ever title win. In 2020, the Owls started off with a 1-5 record before the season was canceled. The team battled with two top 15 teams in the country (#15 Webster and #12 Rhodes) losing by just two and three runs respectively.

The Owls have formed a championship-caliber roster and will look to get back on track in the 2021 season to defend their MASCAC title.
