Palmer Named MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Week
Westfield State first-year Sam Palmer was named the MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Week after strong week for the Owls
Westfield, Mass.- Westfield State University first year outfielder and pitcher Samuel Palmer (Medfield, Mass.) earned both Rookie and Player of the Week honors in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. Palmer batted .556 (10-18) with two doubles, a triple, a homerun, seven RBI, five runs scored, a stolen base and .944 slugging percentage. His effort helped lift Owls' baseball to a 3-1 week.
Palmer launched a homerun and a double in the lone loss to Coast Guard, and went 6-for-9 with a double, triple, five RBI, and two runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Fitchburg State on Saturday. He also chipped in with a hit and a run scored in the Owls' 4-2 win over Fitchburg on Friday.
On the season, Palmer has 12 hits in 23 at bats (.522 avg.) with nine RBI while also tossing 6.1 innings for the Owls.
Westfield State will travel to Amherst College for their next match-up on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
