Lapierre Named MASCAC Pitcher of the Week
Westfield State junior Ryan Lapierre earned conference recognition this past week after securing the MASCAC Pitcher of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior pitcher Ryan Lapierre (Pittsfield, Mass.) earned conference honors this past week as he secured the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. It was the third time this season that Lapierre was recognized as the conference's Pitcher of the Week.
Lapierre got the starting nod in the MASCAC conference opener against Fitchburg State on Friday, tossing eight innings without allowing an earned run. He gave up four hits, walked three, and struck out a season-high ten batters to keep the Falcons offense quiet, allowing for the Owls to rally in the ninth for a walk off, 2-1 victory.
The junior righthander lowered his earned run average to under one, posting a conference-leading 0.93 ERA in four starts for Westfield this season. Through 29.0 innings pitched, Lapierre has allowed just three earned runs and has piled up 25 strikeouts which is currently fourth most in the MASCAC.
Westfield State (6-9, 2-1 MASCAC) will return home for their next game as the Owls host a non-conference matchup against Amherst College tomorrow at 4:00 P.M. before entering back into MASCAC play later in the week against Mass. Maritime.
