Burnett Named MASCAC Player of the Week
Westfield State third baseman Dan Burnett was named the MASCAC Player of the Week after a torrid stretch at the plate for the Owls this past week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State third baseman Dan Burnett (Granville, Mass.) earned conference honors this past week as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after a torrid stretch at the plate.
Burnett batted .529 with two home runs, three doubles, a triple and seven RBIs while scoring seven times as part of a 4-0 week for the Owls. He piled up a 1.176 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage as well.
Burnett crushed a pair of home runs, including the go-ahead three-run blast in the Owls 9-5 victory over Elms College on Wednesday. He opened up the scoring in game one of a three-game set with Salem, collecting three hits and two RBIs in a 13-4 win. He tallied three more hits with a double and triple in a 10-1 win over the Vikings as part of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon.
The junior third baseman has been on fire over his last ten games, registering a .535 batting average (23-43) with five home runs and 14 RBI over that span. On the season, Burnett has posted a .363/.405/.681 slash line with eight home runs and 30 RBIs. He leads the Owls with ten doubles and is third in homers and tied for sixth in RBI in the MASCAC.
Westfield State (14-15, 8-5 MASCAC) will enter the home stretch of the regular season as eight of their remaining nine games are against MASCAC opponents. The Owls will host MCLA tomorrow in a doubleheader from Hagan Field in Westfield, Mass. beginning at 2:00 P.M.
