Pollard Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
The first-year starter allowed one unearned run over six innings to snap Bridgewater’s 16-game winning streak.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year starting pitcher Griffin Pollard (Mystic, Conn.) earned conference weekly honors last week as he received the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week after another quality start on the mound.
Pollard allowed one unearned run in six innings of work against the top team in the conference in Bridgewater State. He gave up three hits and walked three while striking out three to pick up his third win of the season, snapping the Bears 16-game winning streak in a 2-1 victory.
Pollard earns conference rookie honors for the second time this season with the other time occurring after throwing seven scoreless frames against MCLA. On the season, he is third on the team in innings pitched with 32.0 and has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four starts.
Westfield State (10-10 MASCAC) enters the final week of the regular season with playoff positioning on the line in a jumbled-up conference standings. The Owls will wrap up a series against Mass. Maritime tomorrow at 3:30 P.M. from Hagan Field in Westfield, Mass. before closing the regular season with three games against Salem State, both teams with which the Owls are battling to improve their rank.
