Join us for the 4th Annual
Owl Club Golf Tournament at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass., on Monday August 2, 2010. Reunite with friends, teammates, and alumni, with all proceeds benefiting the Owl Club, which supports Westfield State College’s athletic programs.
The tournament will be a scramble format, which allows golfers of all abilities to play in a fun and competitive setting. The tournament will include a variety of contests. Tee time is 12:00 noon. Please arrive to register at 11:00 a.m.
The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch served on the course, and a buffet dinner and awards ceremony after the tournament. A cocktail hour will precede the dinner.
In celebration of his 20 years at the helm of the Westfield State College football team, head coach Steve Marino ’71 is our guest of honor for the Owl Club tournament.
Marino has become synonymous with the program, guiding the Owls through 20 of their 28 years of existence, to 100 career wins, and a perfect 10-0 regular season record and the program’s only NCAA Playoffs appearance in 2001.
At Westfield, Marino has coached a dozen All-American players, and legions of All-Conference and All-New England Selections, including two players who were named New England’s “Player of the Year.”
Marino has been named the NEFC coach of the year on two occasions, and was honored as the New England coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association, the New England Writers, and the Greater Boston Gridiron Club in 2001.
Marino received his B.A. degree from Westfield State in 1971 and his master's degree in 1978. He taught English at Ludlow High School for 29 years, serving as dean of student for four years before retiring in 2005.
Coach Marino and the Owls will kick off the 2010 season at home on Friday, September 3 against Nichols College, under the lights at Alumni Field.
