WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) earned conference honors this past week, securing the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week after a strong showing for the Owls in an overtime victory over Worcester State.
This past family weekend saw an intense field hockey match between two MASCAC opponents in Worcester State and the Westfield State Owls. The match ended in a sudden-victory overtime score off the stick of Murphy.
The junior forward from Pembroke, netted a pair of goals including the one that broke the tie in overtime to put Westfield past the reigning MASCAC-champion Worcester State Lancers.
The two goals pull Murphy fully ahead of the conference in goals as she leads with a total of six this season. Looking across the rest of the statistical groups, Murphy also leads in points this season with 14. That total almost doubles her second-place counterpart.
This is Murphy's second Offensive Player of the Week this season alone and will look to continue her success.
Murphy and the Owls continue play on Tuesday, September 24 as they travel north to play non-conference opponent Vermont State Castleton at 4 p.m.
