Murphy, Curran Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors
Murphy tallied a hat trick to earn player of the week while Curran’s goal and assist secured conference rookie of the week honors.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) and first-year Kacey Curran (Fall River, Mass.) both earned MASCAC weekly honors this past week with Murphy named the conference offensive player of the week while Curran received the league's rookie of the week.
Murphy began the 2025 season with a hat trick, helping guide the Owls to a 10-0 victory over Gordon in the Caryl Newhof Classic from Smith College on Friday afternoon.
Last season, Murphy led the Owls in goals (12), assists (six), and points (30) and was named to the MASCAC All-Conference First Team for her efforts. The three-goal performance moves Murphy into tenth place in the program's all-time points list, totaling 65 points in 63 games played.
Curran's debut with Westfield was a success as she tallied a goal and an assist in the win over Gordon. The first-year forward set up Murphy for the Owls third goal of the game, then capped the Westfield scoring in the fourth quarter, pushing the Owls into double figure scoring for the game.
Westfield State (1-1) will remain on the road this week, travelling to Western New England on Wednesday for a 7:00 P.M. start time.
