WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State's Lilianna Atkins (Agawam, Mass.) netted her first goal as an Owl, but WSU fell to Keene State by a 7-1 count in a non-conference game at Alumni Field on Thursday night.
Keene improves to 5-0 on the season while Westfield is now 2-3.
Keene got a pair of goals from Grace Bazin and a goal and an assist from Jennifer Erickson.
Keene jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 21 minutes before Westfield got on the scoreboard. Westfield's Sadie Stauffer(Suffield, Conn.) sent a long pass into the circle that went through traffic before finding Atkins on the right side to redirect the ball up into the cage to trim the lead to 3-1 in the 26th minute. Keene would tally twice more before the half to put the game out of reach.
Keene outshot Westfield 35-9, and had a 14-2 edge in penalty corners.
Westfield got eight saves from Olivia LaBrie (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire), and five from Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty), as well as a defensive save from Shannon Gover (Norwood, Mass.).
Westfield will next play at Framingham State on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
