Gniadek, Reynolds Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors
Gniadek secured MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors while Reynolds was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior goalkeeper Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass.) and first-year forward Alyssa Reynolds (Somers, Conn.) both received conference honors this past week as Gniadek earned the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week while Reynolds secured the conference Rookie of the Week.
Gniadek anchored the Owls defense in a 2-1 overtime win at Worcester State, making six saves in 63:15 of action for a 0.95-goals against average and an .857 save percentage. Gniadek receives conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
On the season, the senior goalie has put together a 7-3 record with a 2.04 goals against average and an .816 save percentage. In conference play, Gniadek has been stellar as she has posted a 6-0 record with a 1.09 goals against.
In the Owls current ten game winning streak, Gniadek has anchored the defense in seven of those contests with the highlight of the stretch coming in a 3-2 shootout victory over Johnson & Wales where she made a career-best 24 saves.
Reynolds gathered rookie honors after tallying a clutch fourth quarter goal for the Owls to force overtime against the Lancers, assisting Westfield in remaining unbeaten in conference play at 8-0.
She has now appeared in eight straight games for the Owls, netting the first goal of her collegiate campaign against Salem State on October 4 before potting the equalizer last Tuesday.
Reynolds joins a quickly ascending first-year class for Owls field hockey which has accumulated 23 goals and 11 assists in 15 games played.
Westfield State has four regular season games remaining on the schedule and will travel to Anna Maria (1-12, 0-8 MASCAC) tomorrow for a 6:00 P.M. start before returning home for a colossal homecoming weekend matchup with Bridgewater State (12-2, 8-1 MASCAC) on Saturday at 6:00 P.M.
