WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University got a goal and an assist from first-year Kacey Curran to lead the Owls to a 5-1 field hockey win at Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon to clinch the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's regular season title.
The Owls improve to 15-3 on the season, extending their school-record for wins in a season, and run their current win streak to 13 games, also a new record mark. The Owls are 11-0 in the MASCAC.
Westfield got on the board first with a backhand flip-in from Kaleigh Murphy less than five minutes into the game. The goal was Murphy's 17th of the season, and gives her 99 career points. Murphy goes into a tie for sixth on the Owls single-season goal list (Jessie Gould, 2008 and Cora Rogers 2017), and her 99 career points ties her for fourth on Westfield's career list with Owls' Hall of Famer and former head coach Heather Cabral '92.
Salem's Allison Thomas tied the game at 1-1 late in the first quarter.
Curran assisted on Ashley D'Elia's tip-in in the 26th minute of play, and Caroline Andrade added an insurance goal before the half.
Andrade fed Curran to give the Owls a 4-1 lead midway through the third quarter, and Alyssa Reynolds capped the scoring late in the third quarter. Emma Gnidek finished with three saves for Westfield, which peppered Salem GK Izzy Mosely with 25 shots on goal with Mosely making 19 saves.
Salem dips to 5-11, 3-9 MASCAC with the loss.
Westfield has one regular season game remaining, as they will host Fitchburg State on Saturday at 4:30 at Alumni Field, in what will be the Owls Senior Day.
