WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State field hockey trio of Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.), Shannon Gover (Norwood, Mass.), and Kacey Curran (Fall River, Mass.) swept the MASCAC player of the week honors after securing their second straight conference championship this past weekend.
Murphy was named the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring once while adding two assists during the Owls two playoff wins last week. She tallied an assist in the Owls 2-0 win over Framingham State, collecting her 100th career point. She then scored the first goal of the game for Westfield about four minutes into action, adding an assist to punctuate the Owls title run in a 4-2 win against Worcester.
Murphy was named the 2025 MASCAC Tournament MVP for her performance. She enters the NCAA Tournament as the team leader in goals with 18 and points (44). Her career point total stands at 103, which is the fourth most points in program history and is one of four players to top the 100-career point mark.
Gover received the conference's Defensive Player of the Week honors, anchoring the Owls back line while also stepping up on offense to ice the championship game against the Lancers. With the Owls in front 3-2 late in the fourth, Gover put the game out of reach by collecting a rebound and scoring from inside the goal mouth to cap the scoring for Westfield.
She was a key component to the Owls defense which posted a shutout effort in the Owls 2-0 semifinal win. In the title game, the Owls defense collectively held Kaylie Ciccone, the Lancers top goal scorer, to just one shot on goal in the contest.
Curran wrapped up the weekly honors by earning the MASCAC Rookie of the Week, scoring both goals in the semifinal game against the Rams to propel the Owls into the MASCAC Championship. She also directly set up Gover's goal on Saturday, firing an initial shot that was saved with the deflection finding Gover.
The rookie forward begins the NCAA Tournament with 12 goals, the third most scored on the team, while her eight assists if the fifth highest total in the MASCAC.
Westfield State (18-3) earned the MASCAC's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season after winning the conference championship on Saturday. The Owls enter the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the country, riding a 16-game winning streak into their first-round game against national powerhouse and ninth-ranked Middlebury College on Wednesday at 4:30 P.M.
