WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Senior forward Marcus Collins (Ringe and Latin/Cambridge, Mass.) scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Westfield State to a 76-52 win over Castleton University in the opening round of the Sig Makofski Tournament at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls got out to a 48-30 lead at the half and were never seriously challened in the second half.
The Owls improve to 3-2 on the season with the win. The Owls advance to tomorrow's championship game, meeting the winner of Union and NVU-Lyndon at 4:00 p.m.
Christopher Prophet (Central/Springfield, Mass.) added 12 points and seven assists for Westfield, with Peter Mafo (Lynn English/Lynn, Mass.) throwing in 15 points on 4-4 shooting from three-point range and grabbed five rebounds.
Castleton (2-2) was led by 11 points off the bench from Eric Shaw. Ben Mrowka and Cameron Edwards each added 8.
