WESTFIELD, Mass. – AZ Allah exploded for 25 second-half points to lead Westfield State to an 85-79 win at Mitchell College in the Mitchell-Coast Guard Tournament in New London, Conn. on Friday night.
Allah finished with 29 points, with teammate Kenney Rogers adding 17 points and 17 rebounds in the win.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with Westfield leading 39-36 at the half, and maintaining a small edge for most of the second half. Mitchell took a 73-72 lead on a Troy Butler three-pointer with 4:46 left in the game. Westfield answered on the next possession with a Cameron Hoekstra offensive rebounds and putback to take the lead back at 74-73, and the Owls would not relinquish the lead from there.
Allah had several scoring bursts in the second half, scoring seven, eight, and nine straight points on different occasions to power the Owls attack.
Xavier Lewis added 14 points for the Owls, Jason James had 10 and Joe Thomson added eight points and 14 rebounds for the Owls.
Mitchell was led by 32 points from Butler.
Westfield improves to 3-0 on the season and will play at the US Coast Guard Academy on Saturday as part of the tournament.
