Men’s Golf Hosts Brett Williamson Invitational
Mitchell College’s Shamus McLean birdied the first playoff hole to win the 2024 Brett Williamson Invitational golf tournament hosted by Westfield State University at Tekoa Country Club on Wednesday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College's Shamus McLean birdied the first playoff hole to win the 2024 Brett Williamson Invitational golf tournament hosted by Westfield State University at Tekoa Country Club on Wednesday.
McLean shot 74 for his round, which was matched by New England College's Graham Hassan. The two players played off on Tekoas first hole, with both tee shots finding the fairway.
Hassan's second shot from the 150 marker found the left side bunker, while McLean took advantage of having hit driver on his first shot, and dropped a short iron about seven feet above the pin.
After Hassan played out of the bunker, McLean rolled his putt in for birdie and the title.
New England College claimed team honors with a score of 307 followed by Worcester State at 316 with MCLA rounding up the top three with a 325 team score.
Westfield was led by a 76 from Brett Gratz who finished fourth individually, with Will Gangi shooting a 79 to place 11th overall.
Westfield had two five-man teams participate, with the White team shooting 336 to outpace the Blue team by four strokes.
Tekoa Country Club is a par 71 course, spanning 6,438 yards from the blue tees.
Westfield State along with many other teams from today's tournament will participate in the MASCAC Championship meet on Saturday and Sunday from The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass.
