Zak, Mignone Named All-Conference

MASCAC All-Conference Team
Westfield State junior forward Dennis Zak (Dover, N.J.) and senior forward Casey Mignone (Ramsey, N.J.) were selected to the Massachusetts State College Athletics Conference ice hockey all-conference squad.
Zak was a first-team selection and Mignone was a second-team choice. They were the leading scorers for the Owls this season. Zak tallied 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 26 games and Mignone scored 36 points (17 goals, 19 assists). Mignone (29 points) and Zak (28 points) also led the Owls during their 18 MASCAC regular season games.
Zak, a transfer from UMass Boston, now has 102 career points (36 goals, 66 assists). Mignone finished his fine collegiate career with 80 points (35 goals, 45 assists) in 100 games played.
Plymouth State University senior forward Chris Chambers was named as the 2009-10 MASCAC Player of the Year and heads the league’s all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference’s seven coaches.
A native of Crofton, Md., Chambers led the MASCAC in overall scoring during regular season play with 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points for the Panthers,
Salem State College freshman forward Nick Lampson (Groton, Mass.) was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year after netting 16 goals and 12 assists for a team-best 28 points during his inaugural collegiate campaign, while Fitchburg State College’s Dean Fuller was honored by his peers as the Coach of the Year after leading the Falcons to 18 victories overall, including a 14-4 slate in league play, and their first conference regular season title since the 1988-89 season.
Chambers was joined on the 2009-10 MASCAC first-team all-conference squad by Fitchburg State’s Andrew Hutton and Westfield State’s Dennis Zak at forward, Plymouth State teammate Richie Zobak and Fitchburg State’s Chris Brecken on defense as well as Fitchburg State’s Robert Vorse in goal.
The 2009-10 MASCAC second-team all-conference squad consisted of Westfield State’s Casey Mignone, Salem State’s Chris MacInnis, Framingham State’s Joe Hurley and Worcester State’s Mark Rintel at forward, Salem State’s Sam Cannata and Fitchburg State’s Pat Dolan on defense as well as UMass Dartmouth’s Jon Dryjowicz-Burek in goal.
In its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College. Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men’s ice hockey.
