Boisclair Nets Overtime Winner, Owls Top Assumption 5-4
Boisclair's game-winner came with 1:07 left in overtime to send the Owls to their seventh win of the season.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Julian Boisclair (Voorhees, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 remaining in overtime as Westfield State defeated Assumption University 5-4 in a non-conference game from Amelia Park Arena in Westfield, Mass. on Thursday night.
The Owls wrap up the 2025 portion of their schedule with a victory, improving to 7-4 on the season while the Greyhounds fall to 7-7-1 overall.
In the overtime period, the Boisclair winner was set up after a pair of strong saves from first-year netminder Noah Davis (Calgary, Alberta) who denied consecutive chances from Assumption to keep the game alive.
Jesper Seeberg (Lake Worth, Fla.) gained possession of the puck in the defensive end, carrying the puck into the Greyhounds zone where he would take a serpentine route around the net, dishing the puck to the center of the ice to a crashing Boisclair who ripped home the goal to secure the win. For Boisclair, the marker was his fourth of the season and his second game-winning goal of the year.
The Owls were forced to come from behind in the third period after losing a two-goal lead from earlier in the game. With the game tied at three, Assumption scored their fourth power play goal of the night on the tail end of a major penalty with Jonathan Surrette (Woburn, Mass.) depositing his second goal of the night and 12th on the season to give the Greyhounds their first lead of the night with 18:15 left in the third.
At the halfway point of the period, the Owls found the equalizer off the stick of first-year forward Liam Krupcyznski (San Marcos, Calif.) who provided Westfield with a spark on offense throughout the night, tallying his second goal of the game after potting a rebound attempt off a saved shot from Raphael Seguin (Saint-Lazare, Quebec).
Westfield flew out to an early 2-0 lead in the game, scoring both goals within the first five minutes of the game. Krupcyznski got the scoring started 2:30 into the first, with Nicolas Coppola (Glendale, Ariz.) flipping a two-on-one pass to Krupcyznski who tipped in the goal.
Brett Williams (Easton, Mass.) doubled the Owls lead thanks to a quick entry our of their own end with Davis credited with a secondary assist on the play by settling the puck to Thomas Reilly (Foxborough, Mass.) who hit Williams in stride at the red line where he would skate all the way to the net and tuck home a short-side shot.
Penalties played a decisive role in the middle stages of the game. Assumption rattled home back-to-back goals on the man advantage in the back half of the first with the trio of Surrette, Shane McElhaney (Swansea, Mass.) and Ryan Decker (Berlin, Mass.) combining for points on both scoring plays. McElhaney scored the second Greyounds goal to tie the contest with under a minute left in the period.
In the second period, Xavier Tremblay (Sainte-Adele, Quebec) put Westfield back in front, taking a feed from Emile Tremblay (Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec) only 2:35 into the second frame. Westfield would take that lead into the waning seconds of the period where Assumption would capitalize on another power play chance with Patrick McKiernan (Glastonbury, Conn.) firing in the tying marker with 1.8 remaining. Surrette added an assist on the play as he was involved in all four scoring plays as part of a four-point night with two goals and two assists.
Westfield allowed four power play goals but did kill a five-on-three to thwart an additional opportunity for the Greyhounds. Westfield outshot Assumption 41-33 with Davis registering his first collegiate win of the season in his first start, making 29 saves. Callum Welch (Strafford, N.H.) made 36 saves for the Greyhounds.
Westfield State will enter a three-week hiatus for the holiday break before returning to the ice on Friday, January 2 as the Owls visit Western Connecticut State University for a 4:00 P.M. puck drop.
