WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State's Xavier Tremblay scored a pair of goals to power the Owls offense and sophomore goalie Aiden Winslow stopped 30 shots to post the shutout as the Owls blanked Keene State, 5-0 at Amelia Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Westfield improves to 9-4 with the win, while Keene is now 5-6.
Westfield peppered Keene with 23 shots in the first period, but couldn't get on the scoreboard until the 19:20 mark when the Owls passing saw defensemen Danny Finnegan ship it to Julian Bosclair on the left side boards, who found Brett Williams walking down the crease, beating Keene State's Jeri Stacher, who had lost his stick on the sequence and was trying to recover it as Williams scored.
The Owls grabbed a 2-0 lead on Tremblay's first of the day, scoring shorthanded with an assist from Cooper Board at the 5:58 mark of the second period.
Westfield made it 3-0 before the second intermission when Tremblay, the defending MASCAC Rookie of the Week, intercepted a weak pass from Keene in the crease and deposited it in the back of the net at 15:30 of the period.
The Owls tacked on a goal from Jackson Gruber, converting off a face-off pass from Colin Roe, and a shorthanded breakaway from Board to cap the scoring.
Keene put 13 shots on goal in the third, but Winslow stopped them all as Westfield also skated off four power play chances for the visitors.
Westfield will be back in action on Friday, with another mid-afternoon start at Amelia Park, hosting Division II Post University at 1:25 p.m.
