WESTFIELD, Mass. – First-year goaltender Noah Davis (Calgary, Alberta) posted a 28-save shutout and first-year forward Cannon Bonifay (Fort Worth, Texas) scored a goal and assisted on the other as Westfield State defeated Framingham State 2-0 in a MASCAC contest on the road Saturday night.
The Owls (12-5-1) improve to 5-2-1 in the MASCAC and maintain their positioning in the third spot in the conference standings while the Rams fall to 2-6 in the league and 5-13 overall.
Bonifay got the scoring started late in the first period, using an aggressive forecheck to keep the puck in the zone before skating towards the net, working his way past a pair of Framingham defenders before flipping home his fifth goal of the season with 2:17 left in the period.
Westfield powered into the second intermission with another late goal this time with Bonifay serving as the facilitator to Louis Ouellet (Baie-Comeau, Quebec) who potted a power play goal for his fifth of the season to provide an insurance marker heading into the final period.
Davis held Framingham off the scoreboard in the third to punctuate the win in shutout fashion, recording 11 saves in the final 20 minutes to send the Owls home with a victory. For Davis, the win served as his third of the campaign.
Westfield outshot Framingham 42-28 on the night. Isak Saldjoughi delivered a strong performance in goal for Framingham as the netminder racked up 40 saves.
Westfield State returns to action on Thursday as the Owls host Worcester State in a MASCAC game at 7:35 P.M. from Amelia Park Arena in Westfield, Mass.
