WESTFIELD., Mass. – Cannon Bonifay scored two goals and added and assist to help power Westfield State to a 5-2 win at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a MASCAC men's ice hockey game at Veterans' Arena in North Adams on Saturday evening.
Westfield State improves to 14-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the MASCAC. The 14 wins match the most for the program since returning to varsity status in the 2008-09 season. The Owls finished with 14 wins in 2013 and 2018.
MCLA dips to 4-14-3 and 2-7-1in the league.
The game was tied 2-2 early in the second period, before Owls' senior defenseman Raphael Seguin scored what proved to be the game-winner on the power play with an assist from Bonifay.
Bonifay added a pair of goals in the third period to put the game away. Louis Oullet scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Owls.
Aidan Winslow and Noah Davis combined for 38 saves in net for the Owls. Davis relieved Winslow after an apparent injury in the second period, and Davis stopped all 18 shots he faced to close out the win.
Rocco Stoltz and Josh Girard combined for 22 saves for the Trailblazers.
The win gave Westfield a clean sweep of the Trailblazers for the day, as Westfield won the men's and women's basketball games vs. MCLA earlier in the day in Westfield.
The Owls have four regular-season games remaining, next hosting Anna Maria College on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield. Westfield sits in third place in the league, one point behind Anna Maria in the standings as of press time today.
