WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State grad student Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) turned a strong performance in the javelin into more honors, as he placed eighth in the javelin at the NEICAAA New England All-Divisions championship at Holy Cross University on Friday morning.
Clark tossed the javelin 57.57 meters, the second best throw of his career. He had entered the completion as the 16th seed, based on previous performances this season. By virtue of finishing in the top eight, Clark earns all-New England honors when competing against a field of 24 athletes from NCAA Division I, II, and III schools.
Jordan Davis from Division II Southern Connecticut State won the javelin with top mark of 78.60 meters.
Clark was fourth among the D3 athletes in the event.
Clark won Division III All-New England status last weekend.
Clark entered the day 49th on the performance list for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet, where the top 22 entrants will be selected for the meet. Clark's throw today could move him as high as 35th, pending other performances this weekend.
Currently the 22nd spot on the performance list would require a throw of 59.36 meters. Clark will have one more chance to qualify when he throws at the MIT Final Qualifier meet on Thursday, May 16.
