Warsame, Klatka Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors
Warsame was named the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week while Klatka secured the conference’s Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State men's track and field duo of Ali Warsame (Chelsea, Mass.) and Owen Klatka (Pittsfield, Mass.) received conference honors this past week with Warsame earning the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week with Klatka securing the league's Rookie of the Week.
Warsame delivered a pair of exceptional results at the Dartmouth December Invite this past Saturday, leaping to the top mark in both the long jump and the triple jump. In his sixth and final attempt in the triple jump, Warsame totaled a distance of 13.67m which placed him 36th in the indoor qualifying list. His 6.54m long jump also earned him a New England Division III provisional mark.
Last season, Warsame was named to the USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field All-Region Team in both the long jump and triple jump.
Klatka earned the other individual event victory for Westfield on Saturday, clearing the high jump bar at a height of 1.80m in his first attempt to win a three-way tie. The first-year athlete has put together back-to-back strong performances in his collegiate debut which also included a 1.82m jump at the Springfield College Invitational to begin the season.
Westfield State enters the holiday break and will resume action on Saturday, January 17 at the Coast Guard Winter Invite #1 from New London, Conn.
