Shea tops long jump at Massasoit Classic
Westfield had the top three finishers in the 5000 meters as well.
Westfield State's Danny Shea and Michael Pelletier finished 1-2 in the long jump, leading the performances of the Owls at the Massasoit Classic at Springfield College on Saturday.
Danny Shea won the long jump with a mark of 6.72 meters, with Pelletier second at 6.71 meters. Both set qualifying marks for the NED3 meet, with Shea setting an indoor personal best just weeks after returning from a study abroad semester in Italy, and Pelletier setting a personal best mark as well
Westfield had the top three finishers in the 5000, with Rodrigo Miranda winning in 17:27 followed be Braeden Ramsey and Tyler Meunier in the podium positions.
Other top finishes for the Owls included Jordan Stallworth sixth in deep field in the 200 meters in 24.32, Rowan Gottschall took fourth in 800 meters in 2:03.14 with teammate Lorcan Bergeron on his heels in fifth.
Nate Sylven placed fourth in the 3000 with a time of 9:55.02, and the Owls 4x400 relay was third in 3:38.85 with the quartet of Gotschall, Jace Falcone, Stallworth, and Colin Mahoney.
Devan Cerone placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.82 meters. No team scores were posted for the meet.
Westfield is next scheduled to have athletes compete at the Harvard Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 31.
