Ware's Third Highlights Outdoor Opener

Westfield State got its outdoor track and field season underway on Saturday, competing at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational meet at Wesleyan College in Middletown, Conn.
Senior John Ware delivered the Owls' top finish of the meet, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 57.70 meters. Ware's toss is good for an automatic qualifying mark for the NED3 championships later this spring.
Michael Pelletier secured sixth place in the long jump at 6.35 meters, while Daniel Shea added another scoring-level performance in the same event with a 10th-place finish.
On the track, Jordan Stallworth paced the Westfield State sprinters with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters (11.11) and followed it up with a strong 10th-place showing in the 200 meters (22.55). Stallworth's 200 time was a personal best, and he earned provisional qualifying times for the NED3 meet.
In the middle distances, Rowan Gottshall turned in a top-10 performance in the 800 meters, placing 10th in 2:01.38. The distance crew was led by freshman Braedan Ramsey, who placed seventh in the 5000 meters (16:44.86 -pr), while Rodrigo Miranda added a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 meters (33:47.40).
Westfield will next compete at the AIC Invitational in Springfield next Saturday, March 28.
