Ware Wins Javelin at Coast Guard Invitational
Ware won the Javelin with a throw of 56.85 meters, or 186’-06”.
Field athletes led the way for the Westfield State men's track and field team at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational meet on Saturday in New London, Conn., including a first-place result from Johnny Ware in the javelin.
Westfield placed seventh among nine scoring teams ast the meet with 39 points. Coast Guard defended their home turf in winning the meet with 159 points.
Ware won the Javelin with a throw of 56.85 meters, or 186'-06".
Westfield got points in the discus from Xavier Merkman placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 43.91 ( 144'-0"). Micah Scott also placed in the top 10, finishing seventh at 40.89 m (134-02), and also was seventh in shot put at 12.38m (40' 7.5").
In the long jump Westfield got points from Michael Pelletier, who placed third in 6.74, (22-1.5") followed by teammate Daniel Shea in fourth at 6.64m (21-9.5").
Westfield State's 4x100 placed third in 44.19 to earn six points.
The Owls are back in action next weekend, hosting their home meet and senior day at the Jerry Gravel Invitational at the Gravel Track on campus.
