WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University junior Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) was the first man in for the Owls, as he placed in fourth place individually to lead the Owls to a second-place team finish at the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's cross county championship at Stanley Park on Saturday.
Sylven tripped the 8-kilometer course in 26:14.82.
Fitchburg State's Paulino Guevara Mateo won the individual race in 25:06.73, followed by Bridgewater State's Kyle Ackroyd (26:01.16) and Kevin McBirney (26:06.45) was third.

Owls first year Drew Organ (Suffield, Mass.) was eighth in 27:05. Braeden Ramsey (Plainville, Conn.) (14th) Tyler Meunier (Gardner, Mass.) (15th) and Colin Mahoney (Plainville, Ma.) (16th) packed up to round out the Owls scoring five.
"The senior class committed to leaving it better than they found it, and they have created a brotherhood environment for the team to develop ," said Owls' head coach Marlee Berg-Haryasz. "Team culture has improved under them. I'm pleased that we were able to secure second to help the University towards the Smith Cup but I know that we have more in us."
Berg also noted that Tyler Meunier also ran a 10-second personal best for the third week in a row.
Westfield will take next week off before closing out the season at the NCAA Regional Championship at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. on Nov. 15.
