Westfield State softball looks to host Bridgewater State for a doubleheader this Monday afternoon at 12 p.m. at the Westfield Softball field. This game will be a league matchup and a battle for second place in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Owls (10-14) are 3-1 in the conference, tying for second with the Bears (12-13-1) in the MASCAC.
Westfield is currently on a six-game win streak and looks to keep momentum with senior Colleen Hughes leading the charge . Hughes has had a strong hitting year with a .500 batting average and a .722 slugging percentage. She leads the Owls in hits (36), doubles (8), and RBI (25). The Owls have also found a spark in freshman pitcher Katherine Canty as well. Canty was recently recognized as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week after she fired a complete game in a 13-0 victory against Mass Maritime, striking out 11 batters for a career high and a team season high. Canty most recently pitched a six-hit shutout against Keene State , striking out nine batters and walking none.
The Bears have looked to senior outfielder Alexandra Ruprecht and shortstop Megan Sharon to lead them this season. Ruprecht is in the forefront for the Bears with eight doubles, and total RBI with 26. She has three home runs on the year, acquiring a .414 batting average and a .686 slugging percentage. Sharon leads the Bears in with 30 hits this season and a .370 batting average. She also recorded 15 RBI, four doubles, and two triples while finding herself second in runs for the Bears with 19.
