Team Stats
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State softball has won 12 straight games to open the 2026 season.
The Owls swept a split double header from Lesley (Mass.) University, 14-0, and St. Joseph's University of Brooklyn, 15-0 to close out the spring trip to Naples and Fort Myers, Fla. on Wednesday morning.
In game one, first year Cassidy Wallner (W, 2-0) pitched a three-hit shutout, allowing four walks and striking out four in five innings as the game was shortened due to the eight run rule.
Westfield rapped out 17 hits on the day, as seven different players recorded a pair of hits. Lily Dionne drove in three runs on the afternoon, including two in the first inning on a base hit to start a four-run inning in the Owls' offensive outburst.
Westfield tacked on eight more runs in the second inning, with Allyssa Slack and Ella Malanson each delivering two-run doubles.
In game 2, Westfield State first-year Isabella Schaeffer (W, 3-0) tossed the Owls' second no-hitter of the trip. Schaeffer tossed five innings, striking out three and walking one before the game was shortened by the eight-run rule. Shaeffer faced just one more hitter than the minimum, with Jessica Jakob reaching on an error in the third inning. Brielle nelson walked to lead off the fourth but was cut down via a double play.
Schaeffer started in the Owls' combined no-hitter earlier in the week as well.
Every player in the Owls starting nine in the lineup drove in at least one run.
Hannah Wodecki finished 3-4 with a double and three RBI. The double ties her for the school's career record mark with 32 in her three years as an Owl.
Mia Alfonso was 2-4 with a double and three runs batted in as well. Arielle Ostman was 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
The Owls scored double-figures in seven of their last eight games. Through 12 games Westfield has scored 123 runs, an average of 10.25 runs per game and are batting .393 (137-349) as a team.
The Owls are off to one of their best-ever starts to a season; the Owls were 18-2 in the 1975 season, and started 2025 16-2 before going on to win 32 games in the season to set a program record.
Westfield will be back in action on March 25, traveling to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. for the northern opener.
