Smith
Westfield State softball, which moved into the "receiving votes" category in the NFCA Division III national poll today, kept their record win streak alive, sweeping Smith College to move the Owls to 18-0 on the season.
Westfield State won game 1 by a 14-5 final. The Owls jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Smith battled back with one in the bottom half of the inning and four in the second.
The Owls blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning, stringing together four straight RBI base hits, including a double from Kassidy LaTour.
LaTour finished 3-4 with four rbi and a pair of doubles, Rylie Camacho finished 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
Shayna Bakun earned the win with four innings of shutout relief work.
In game 2, Westfield scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open a 1-1 game. CC Thayer, Camacho and Sarah Hough all had RBI singles in the big inning.
Camacho and Hough each finished 2-3. Camacho had a big day at the plate with five hits in seven trips and added a triple in game two.
Angelina Vartuli scattered four hits and struck out five in earning the win.
