Williams Earns MASCAC Rookie of the Week Honors
For the eighth time this year, first-year guard Octaviana Williams was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the eighth time this season, Westfield State first-year guard Octaviana Williams (Springfield, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after the Owls made a run into the conference championship game this past week.
Williams averaged 8.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals over the course of three MASCAC Tournament games. Her top performance came in the conference semifinals where she recorded a team-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds in a victory over #2-seed Framingham State on the road Friday night. It was the second time over the last four games that Williams scored in double figures. She added four points, five rebounds, and four steals in the MASCAC title game in a narrow loss to Bridgewater State, 64-59.
On the season, Williams finished the year top five in scoring for the Owls, averaging 6.5 points per game. Defensively, she was one of the top defenders in the conference, tying for the second most steals per game (2.8) in the league while also grabbing the second-most rebounds for Westfield at 6.1 per game.
Westfield's season concluded on Saturday as the Owls nine-game winning streak was snapped in the MASCAC Championship game, falling at top-seeded Bridgewater State 64-59.
