WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior forward Jordan Grant (Gray, Maine) doubled down on an excellent performance last week, securing New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll First Team recognition.
Grant earns NEWBA honors after scoring a career-high 36 points to go along with ten rebounds and four steals in a game in which the Owls set several single-game records in a 117-60 win over Fitchburg State this past Wednesday. For Grant, it is the third time this season she has been named to the regional honor roll list. NEWBA recognizes Division III women's basketball players who showcase outstanding performances each week.
Grant has reached double figure scoring in 20 of 22 games for the Owls this season with her 36-point effort pushing her into a tie for first in the MASCAC in scoring at 17.6 points per game. Grant's conference numbers have been even better as well, averaging 18.9 points and 53.7 percent shooting across eight league games.
The senior forward also leads the Owls in rebounds per game (6.5) and offensive rebounds (4.0), keeping possessions alive for Westfield.
In 90 career games played, Grant currently sits sixth all-time with a total of 1,440 with her current 17.6-point pace holding as a career high in her four years with the Owls.
Westfield State (14-8, 5-3 MASCAC) has an important two-game stretch to close the season as the Owls jostle for playoff positioning with Framingham State (5-3 MASCAC) and Salem State (5-3 MASCAC). The Owls will meet the current conference leader in Bridgewater State (16-6, 8-1 MASCAC) on the road for a 7:30 P.M. tip-off.
