Women’s Basketball Selected Third in MASCAC Preseason Poll
The Owls earned 33 points and a top three placement in the coaches’ poll.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State University women's basketball team were selected to finish third as part of the 2025-26 MASCAC Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches throughout the conference.
The Owls totaled 33 points to claim the third spot in the poll behind Bridgewater State which received all seven first place votes (from the other schools) and 49 points as the preseason favorites in the league. Framingham State was in second in the poll, recording 43 points and one first place vote.
Last season, Westfield finished the year with a 16-10 record and a 6-4 conference mark, earning the fourth overall seed in the MASCAC Tournament after losing a three-way tiebreaker. The Owls defeated fifth-seeded Worcester State 89-75 in the MASCAC quarterfinals before dropping to top-seeded Bridgewater in the conference semifinals.
The Owls will look to replenish the scoring lost by their top three point getters from last season who all graduated. Westfield averaged 77.1 points per game last season and 51.2 of those were scored by their senior class of last year.
Several guards will be in the fold to take leaps forward offensively, including Tavi Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass.). Williams, who was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year in her sophomore season, will front the Owls defensive pressure while also seeking to provide an offensive boost. Williams was second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game last year. Berthiaume generated a team-leading 3.4 assists per game while averaging 5.1 points.
Caroline Galvani (Framingham, Mass.) will be another player to watch as she tallied 5.5 points per game which is the highest total for a returning player. She knocked down 27 triples from behind the arc.
Westfield State will begin the 2025-26 regular season on Friday, November 14 as the Owls travel to the Gordon Classic to take on Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 2:00 P.M. from Wenham, Mass.
