Rockwood Earns MASCAC Rookie of the Week
She set a new career-best in points with 14 in the Owls win over Elms last week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year guard Sophia Rockwood (Windsor, Vt.) received the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week honors after guiding the Owls to a victory last week.
Rockwood scored 14 points while anchoring the Owls second rotational unit in a 70-60 road win against Elms College this past Tuesday. The 14 points were a new career best in her brief and impactful start to her rookie season as she added two rebounds and an assist to her stat line.
Rockwood has reached double figure scoring in half of her games this year and is averaging 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game across six games. She has displayed tremendous composure at the free throw line thus far, shooting 80 percent from the stripe to help secure several close victories for the Owls.
Westfield State is off to a strong start to the season, recording a 5-1 record with three straight wins heading into a three-game homestand. The Owls will meet Rivier on Wednesday at 5:30 P.M. from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass. as part of a non-conference doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
