Owls Lax, Donohoe Earn Academic Awards
Westfield State University women’s lacrosse picked up several academic awards from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University women's lacrosse picked up several academic awards from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, as senior midfielder Sam Donohoe (Pepperell, Mass./N. Middlesex) earned a spot on the 2021 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll, and the Owls' team was selected as a IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the 2020-21 academic year.
The team award caps another strong year for the Owls, in which they posted an 8-2 overall record, won the MASCAC Tournament title, and earned the #1 regional ranking in the NCAA North advisory poll while qualifying for a fourth straight NCAA Tournament. The Owls fell to Roger Williams University in a second-round NCAA game.
To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
Donohoe adds to a list of honors that include first-team all-MASCAC and selection to the IWLCA's All-Berkshire Region team. Donohoe compiled a 3.95 GPA while earning majors in both economics and mathematics. On the field, Donohoe led the Owls with 29 goals, 38 points and 39 draw controls. She finished her career with 105 goals and 29 assists for 134 points.
To be eligible for the IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
