WESTFIELD, Mass. – Isabella Pota scored six goals and handed out three assists for Western Connecticut State University as the Wolves defeated Westfield State, 20-7 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at the WestSide Athletic Complex in Danbury, Conn. on Tuesday evening.
Westfield dips to 1-2 with the loss, while WestConn improves to 3-2.
The Wolves closed the first quarter with four unanswered goals to lead 5-1 after one quarter, and added three straight in the first three minutes of the second quarter to push the lead out to 8-1. Pota tallied three times as WestConn took control of the game in the early going.
Madison Ratchford added six goals and an assist for the winners, with Victoria Gracy tallying five goals.
Reigning MASCAC Player of the Week Christina Roncarati led Westfield with three goals. Izzy Conley made 14 saves in goal but was peppered with 44 total shots on the evening.
Norah Zuidema made 11 saves for WestConn. The Wolves held a 17-9 edge in draw controls, and a 16-7 margin in ground balls.
Westfield will travel to Smith College for a non-conference game on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
